About CTTA?

The Central Texas Tennis Association of Austin, Texas, is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization established in August 1997. As part of the newly created Southwest Regional Chapter of the American Tennis Association - a National Tennis Organization. The proposed Southwest Region includes chapters in Austin, Houston, Dallas, and Oklahoma City.

The primary mission of CTTA is basic - to promote the sport of tennis and to give the youth in the inner city of Austin, particularly in East Austin, the opportunity to participate in a sport they would not otherwise be able to.

Our most important objective is to attract young people to the great sport of tennis and to promote participation of all ages all awhile making it more affordable. CTTA sponsors several tennis classes for the young and old alike, and beginners as well as more advanced players. Spearheaded and led by our President, Sarah Pernell, whose tireless leadership and dedication has been a source of inspiration, our youth development program has grown to become one of the largest in the Austin area. With her efforts, CTTA now provides direct tennis instruction and classes to over 300 people.

  • Distribute tennis racquets, tennis clothing, and shoes, to participants.
  • Purchase new racquets for advanced players.
  • Sponsor Juniors to take a week of private tennis lessons.
  • Sponsor children who participate in other activities throughout the school year.

To finance these activities, CTTA began housing our annual Summer Jam Tennis Tournament as a way to raise money for our various programs. Our first tournament, back in 1998, had a little over 96 participants. Today, Summer Jam has over 300 participants from Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Oklahoma (to name a few) attending each year making it one of the most successful tournaments of the summer.

In addition, CTTA also relies on donations from our private sponsors whose tremendous generosity has been essential. Many people have given generously of their time by volunteering as tennis instructors, chaperones, mentors, and tournament officials. Without their enthusiastic and dedicated help, we could not begin to accomplish our goals. We owe each and everyone-- including our sponsors, participants, and volunteers -- our THANKS and sincere gratitude.

We hope CTTA continues to grow. We hope to sponsor a youth tournament in the near future, and offer more services an activities. We also hope to increase public awareness of CTTA with each passing year.

CTTA believes that tennis is a sport for all ages, races, and economical backgrounds. We hope to continue our part in ensuring that it stays that way.
