How do i network a win xp pro sp2 comp with a win 2000 sp3 comp?
i have tried the network wizard and everything, do i need a special protocal?
Follow these steps..
1. check that both your computers having NIC (Network interface card)..
2. check whether the driver for network interface cards are properly installed..
3. If you just want to connect two computers.. you need only a Cross cable.. If more than two computer.. you need a swith/hub to interconnect them.. I think you are having only two computers.
4.Connect both the computers using a Cross cable
5.Now set IP addresses for each network interfaces by the following steps
a. select Control Panel->Network connections
b. select properties of the available connection (for eg. Local area connection)
c.click on the internet protocol from the General tab
d. click properties
6. You can give ip addressess as 192.168.1.1 for first computer and 192.168.1.2 for the second computer. Give the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 for both computers
7. click ok on every box..
8. right click on my computer, click on computer name.. click on change.. and make sure that the workgroup name in two computers are same.
9.now your network will be ok..
