No, you don't NEED it. And running at that wattage, your best bet would be to do the Big 3 upgrade and if you wanted to beef up your electrical, which I recommend, getting a small car audio battery to help with the amp. Look into XS power or kinetic batteries, or you could use an optima battery. But, it is not completely necessary and you don't have to do it. As far as a cap, the benefit of a cap is in the SQ world of car audio. They are essentially voltage stabilizers, and flatten the voltage signal going to your amps and can help deliver amperage when the rest of the electrical system cannot deliver.
