Ford Contour Engine Fan Trouble?
My 1995 Ford Contour GL's engine fan seems to have ceased functioning. Last week I discovered acid from a leaky battery had eaten through the outer casing of the wires leading into the fan switch, just an inch or two from where they enter the switch, but it was all still working [the fan was coming on]. Earlier this week I noticed my car was running hotter than normal as I sat in traffic, but at highway speeds it was normal, so I suspected either the fan or perhaps the fact I've got too much coolant in the reservoir at the moment [by the way, does anyone know if having the coolant overfilled will cause the engine to run hotter?] but today I taped the exposed wires up and on the way home in traffic I started to overheat. Once the roads cleared up I was able to head home at speed and was fine, but when I stopped I let the car idle and it just got hotter and hotter with no fan engaging. Does anyone know what a fan wiring replacement might cost? Or what a fan replacement might cost?
you can replace that part of the harness with one off another fan,or repair the wires if the fan still will work,having one a little over full will make it spit some of the coolant out,but it shouldn't cause an overheating problem with it,find a replacement switch and a piece of harness,the harness you can probably get from a salvage yard for it,and that should re-store the fan to working order,but try not to drive it hot it will damage the engine in it real bad,good luck on it.
