Pbz Zagreb Indoors to be Held From 2 February, 2009
The game is played on hard indoor carpet surface and holds men’s singles and men’s doubles tournament. The prize money for this annual tennis event is $370,000 and the tournament is scheduled to be held from 2 February to 8 February 2009.
So far, only 5 tournaments of this tennis event have taken place, with the first edition held in 1996. Goran Ivaniševi? was the champion for the men's single matches, against runner-up Cédric Pioline with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. The second edition of this event was held in 1997, with Goran Ivaniševi? again winning the title against runner-up Greg Rusedski with a score of 7-6, 4-6, 7-6. The next game for PBZ Zagreb Indoors was held after nine years in 2006, with Ivan Ljubi?i? as the winner against runner-up Stefan Koubek with a score of 6-3, 6-4. In 2007, Marcos Baghdatis won the championship title against Ivan Ljubi?i? runner up with a final score of 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4. Last year in 2008 was the 6th edition of the tennis tournament with Sergiy Stakhovsky as the champion for the men's singles against Ivan Ljubi?i? with a final score of 7-5, 6-4.
The men's tennis doubles results were Libor Pimek and Menno Oosting as the champions in 1996 against the runner-ups Martin Damm and Hendrik Jan Davids with scores 6-3, 7-6. In 1997, Saša Hiršzon and Goran Ivaniševi? were declared as the champions of the final men's double round for PBZ Zagreb Indoors with runner-up Mark Keil and Brent Haygarth with scores 6-4, 6-3. After 9 years, the men's doubles titles was won by Jaroslav Levinský and Michal Merti?ák as the champions in 2006 against runner-up Davide Sanguinetti and Andreas Seppi with scores 7-6(6), 6-1. Michael Kohlmann and Alexander Waske were the champions for the mens double match in 2007 against runners-up František ?ermák and Jaroslav Levinský against a final score of 7–6(5), 4–6, 10–5. Last year, in 2008, Paul Hanley and Jordan Kerr won the men's tennis doubles championship against runner-ups Christopher Kas and Rogier Wassen with a final score of 6–3, 3–6, 10–8.
2009 will see the 6th edition of this annual tennis championship, where several top contestants will compete for the final prize. The main draw matches will start on the last day of January, from Saturday 31 January, with the final tournament on 8 February 2009. Some of the best Croatian tennis players will compete in this event, which will include Ivan Ljubi?i?, Mario An?i?, Ivo Karlovi?, Marin ?ili? and Roko Karanuši?, along with several foreign tennis players.
